Sierra Foothills Unitarian Universalists (SFUU) in Auburn, CA Green Sanctuary Committee held two benefits for toilets.

“Toilets?!?!”  You ask.  Yes, toilets.  And it turned out to be a great investment.

The first event, “Saturday Night at SFUU,” featured a folk singer, an ensemble of church musicians performing Cole Porter songs, and a performance by a college student “improv” comedy group. The second event was a church talent night where SFUU adults and children performed.  These benefits, open to the public as well as the congregation, raised roughly $1,000 which was dedicated to the replacement of three old toilets in their building with newer, low-flush models.

Upon replacement of the toilets, SFUU realized a 75% reduction in water consumption – not only were the old toilets using too much water per flush, they were also leaking!  SFUU is proud of the substantial improvement in water consumption they have realized.  They view water as a precious resource and recognize that their reduction in usage will help with the water situation in California.

SFUU was accredited as a Green Sanctuary on July 28, 2010.  Check out the full list of accredited Green Sanctuaries at the UUA website

Everywhere I see a reduce water use toilet you see huge reductions in good water. This is a good short news article with great news to report!

I agree with you. This type of projects should be encouraged and I think that these type of projects are the projects for the future. . . . .
